Finding My Voice Through Fashion

When I first started paying attention to fashion, I thought it was only about looking good in the eyes of others. I was obsessed with trends, with what my friends were wearing, with what I saw on Instagram or in magazines. My wardrobe was filled with pieces that didn’t even feel like me, but I wore them anyway because I believed that fitting in meant dressing like everyone else. It took me years, and a lot of frustration standing in front of the mirror, to realize that true style has nothing to do with following trends—it has everything to do with how I feel when I step out the door.

“I’m showing the world a piece of who I am. And that, I’ve realized, is the real power of style.”

Over time, I began experimenting quietly. I stopped buying clothes just because they were popular and started asking myself a simple question: Do I actually like this? The first time I put on a simple outfit that wasn’t “trendy” but made me feel completely comfortable, something clicked. It was a plain white shirt, a pair of jeans that fit me perfectly, and shoes that I had owned for years. Nothing about it screamed fashion-forward, but when I looked at myself, I felt confident, I felt authentic. That moment taught me more than any style guide or influencer could.

Now, fashion to me is less about impressing others and more about expressing myself. It’s about balance: blending comfort with a touch of creativity, choosing pieces that reflect my mood, my culture, and my identity. There are still days when I wear something bold just because it excites me, and there are days when I return to my basics because they ground me. The beauty of style is that it doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful; sometimes the quietest outfits make the strongest statement.
